MPU - driving suitability for drugs
If the driver's license was lost due to an incident due to drugs (MPU due to drugs) in road traffic, the test subjects regularly provide evidence of abstinence from drugs in front
the actual medical-psychological examination, or MPU for short, is expected.
You should know that if you have been shown to be using "hard drugs" your driving license will be withdrawn immediately.
If there is proven consumption of cannabis, your driving license will be withdrawn for a period of up to 4 months, initially for 1 month. As a rule, the driver's license office will not return the driver's license but will issue an MPU. You can only get your driver's license back with a positive MPU.
The exact conditions for the chemical-toxicological examination of urine or hair samples within the framework of the MPU are clearly regulated in the so-called "assessment criteria for driving suitability diagnostics" and recorded in writing. The extent to which such laboratory tests are to be carried out and whether urine or hair are chosen as test material, but also the period for which an abstinence check must be carried out, should be made in a preparatory discussion with a specialist advisor, an MPU preparation center (mpu24 specialist advice) or a traffic doctor.
Example: Often you will receive a note from the driver's license office that drug screening should be carried out over 6 months if cannabis is consumed. This statement is not correct, the legal text says: at least 6 months abstinence. Even with occasional cannabis use, 12-month abstinence is often expected.
With 'hard' drugs, abstinence of 12 months is always required.
The decisive factor is not only the period over which abstinence must be taken, the decisive factor is
when to start abstinence so that the driver's license is returned quickly.

What can you expect if your driver's license is withdrawn due to drug possession?
If the administrative authority has withdrawn your driving license, a medical-psychological examination (MPU) is usually also ordered for alcohol and drug-related offenses. Only if you pass this successfully will you be able to get your driver's license back after the blocking period - otherwise you will have to wait until the offense has expired (at least 10 years, in special circumstances even 15 years).
The lock-up period after a driver's license is withdrawn due to drug possession is usually around one year (excluding cannabis offenses). During this time, the person concerned should provide evidence of abstinence through regular drug screening. In addition, the psychologist must come to the conviction through the joint conversations that his attitude to drug use has changed.
The abstinence phase can also be longer under certain circumstances. For example, if there is an addiction problem, a qualified detoxification and weaning phase must take place.
